”Disability 101 is an extraordinary course which offers participants, with or without disabilities, the opportunity to understand and explore the complexities of the topic. I am using the course with a group of students with disabilities who feel empowered and inspired by what they are learning and exploring. Disability 101 should be offered in many educational settings. The fact that its creator has developed the program based on her own observations and experience as someone who has a disability herself, validates every aspect of the course. “The fact that the author herself is disabled brings a tone to the text that I feel other mediums I’ve encountered lack. The course reads as simple and to the point, with succinct and often humorous analogies that outline the various ways disability is seen and treated in society without coming off condescending/patronising to someone who is new to the topic which can be hard to do.
